Good luggage is expensive, and the sales never seem to line up with the trip you’re packing for. After years of watching prices on the bags we own and recommend, we’ve learned where the real discounts show up and when. This page covers both routes: brand sales on Amazon and direct sale pages, plus the budget accessory finds that round out a packing list for less.

Where we look for luggage deals first

Amazon: coupons, Warehouse, and Prime windows

Amazon is our first stop because the discounts are visible and the returns are painless. We check the clip-on coupon under the price, then Amazon Warehouse for open-box versions of the same bag, which often land 20 to 30 percent under list with full return rights.

Brand sale pages and email lists

Travelpro, Samsonite, and TUMI all run their own outlet or sale sections, and their email lists get first access. Brand-direct pricing occasionally beats Amazon during clearance events, so we compare both before buying.

Off-season timing

Luggage discounts deepest when fewer people are flying. January and February clearances are reliably better than June, when everyone shops before summer trips.

Travelpro deals

Travelpro is the brand we point most travelers toward when a sale hits, because flight crews buy these bags at full price and the build quality holds up to that standard. The Platinum Elite line is the one to watch: it discounts less often than Maxlite, so when it drops, it moves fast. You can check current Travelpro pricing on Amazon below, and our full Travelpro luggage review breaks down every line.

Samsonite deals

Samsonite runs promotions more often than any other major luggage brand, which means patience pays. The Freeform hardside line sits in the sweet spot: light enough for a carry-on, tough enough for checked duty, and regularly discounted on Amazon. If a Freeform price looks ordinary today, it’s worth waiting a week.

TUMI deals

TUMI rarely discounts, and that’s part of the appeal: resale value stays strong because the brand protects its pricing. When TUMI does appear at a real markdown, it’s usually on Amazon through the official TUMI store, on last season’s colorways. Our TUMI luggage guide covers which lines justify the price. The Alpha series below is the one we’d put money on.

July, Monos, and Away

The newer direct-to-consumer brands handle sales differently. July and Monos sell almost entirely through their own sites and discount during seasonal events rather than continuously. Away runs occasional sitewide sales, typically around holidays. We track all three, and when their programs open routes we can verify, we’ll add picks here.

Budget travel accessories on Amazon Haul

Amazon Haul is Amazon’s budget storefront, and it’s genuinely useful for small travel gear: packing cubes, toiletry bags, organizers. One quirk worth knowing: Haul purchases complete on mobile, so desktop shoppers get a QR code that hands off to the phone. We explain the whole storefront in our Amazon Haul explainer.

When luggage actually goes on sale

Prime Day (July)

Prime Day is the deepest Amazon luggage window of the year, and hardside spinner sets discount hardest. Add the bags you want to a wish list a week early so you can tell a real markdown from a raised-then-lowered list price. Watch whether a deal is new stock or Amazon Warehouse; both can be excellent, but return windows differ.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday (November)

November splits between Amazon and brand-direct sales, and this is when the direct brands compete hardest. Samsonite and American Tourister historically cut deepest, while premium brands tend to discount accessories rather than core luggage. Carry-on prices usually bottom out for the year during this window.

January and February clearance

The post-holiday window is the most underrated time to buy. Travel demand dips, retailers clear inventory for spring lines, and checked luggage moves at clearance pricing while carry-ons see steadier but real cuts. If you can plan a purchase months ahead of summer travel, this is the window we’d use.

Budget accessories, year-round

Small-item pricing on Amazon Haul stays low all year, so there’s no reason to wait for an event to fill out packing cubes or toiletry kits.

FAQ

When is the best time to buy luggage on sale?

Prime Day in July, Black Friday in November, and the January clearance window are the three windows we plan around. January is the quietest and often the best value, since retailers clear stock while demand is low.

Does Travelpro go on sale?

Yes, though less often than mass-market brands. Maxlite discounts appear regularly on Amazon, while Platinum Elite markdowns are rarer and disappear quickly. Our Travelpro section above tracks the line we’d buy on a deal.

Is Amazon luggage as good as a brand-name sale?

Amazon Basics and similar house brands are honest value for occasional travel, and a discounted Travelpro or Samsonite buys better wheels, zippers, and warranty coverage. Which one wins depends on how often you fly, so we’d weigh trips per year before price.

Are Amazon Haul travel accessories worth it?

For packing cubes, toiletry bags, bottles, and organizers, yes. We’d skip Haul for anything where durability is the whole product, like the suitcase itself. The budget finds section above lists the picks we’ve verified.

Do carry-on and checked luggage go on sale at the same time?

Usually, but not equally. Checked bags and full sets discount deeper in January, while carry-ons see their best pricing during Prime Day and November events when demand peaks.
