Vueling Cabin Bag Size: 40 x 30 x 20 cm and Gate Fees

Vueling's free bag is 40 x 30 x 20 cm under the seat, the same box as Ryanair. Fly Light is that bag only. Fly Grande, Fly Pro, Premium customers and passengers traveling with an infant also get a 10 kg overhead bag at 55 x 40 x 20 cm, and Fly makes you pick that piece or a 25 kg hold bag. Depth is 20 cm, 3 cm tighter than Wizz. Gate fees: 60 to 75 EUR if the small bag breaks 40 x 30 x 20 cm, 110 to 140 EUR if any piece breaks 55 x 40 x 20 cm.

Those centimeters and euro bands come from Vueling's hand-luggage help center, which we reread before this guide went live. The Spanish article prints the same ranges, 60 to 75 EUR and 110 to 140 EUR, per item and per flight. 40 x 30 x 20 cm is 15.7 x 11.8 x 7.9 in. 55 x 40 x 20 cm is 21.7 x 15.7 x 7.9 in. Vueling is IAG's Spanish low-cost, based in Barcelona. A connection is two gates, so the fee can land twice.

Buying one? Personal Item Bag Size: Under-Seat Rules by Airline

Vueling cabin sizes by fare

Every ticket includes the under-seat bag. The locker bag is a fare question. Figures below are the ones on the cabin article and on Vueling's bundle comparison.

Fare Under-seat 40 x 30 x 20 cm Overhead 10 kg, 55 x 40 x 20 cm How the overhead bag is sold
Fly Light Included Not in the fare Add "2 pieces on board", or book Space One, Space Plus, or Space
Fly Included Only if you select it Choose this bag or a 25 kg hold bag at purchase
Fly Grande Included Included Comes with the fare, plus a 25 kg hold bag
Fly Pro Included Included Comes with the fare, plus priority boarding and Fast Track; no hold bag
Premium, or traveling with an infant Included Included Written on the cabin page, not only on Fly Grande

Fly Light is the cheap fare out of Spain: one 40 x 30 x 20 cm bag under the seat. The 10 kg locker bag is extra. Vueling doesn't print one price for "2 pieces on board." The help center says prices vary by booking.

Fly looks like a two-bag cabin fare until you read the asterisk. The bundle page calls it a luggage choice: the 10 kg overhead piece, or a 25 kg hold bag, plus a seat. Pick the hold bag and you still board with the small bag only.

The cabin article doesn't put a kilogram cap on the under-seat bag. The 10 kg figure sits on the overhead piece: maximum 10 kg and 55 x 40 x 20 cm.

The euros Vueling prints at the gate

If the under-seat bag exceeds 40 x 30 x 20 cm, Vueling checks it for 60 to 75 EUR per item and flight. If any piece exceeds 55 x 40 x 20 cm, the check-in fee is 110 to 140 EUR per item and flight.

Those are two bands. A 42 cm backpack on Fly Light is the 60 to 75 EUR band. A spinner 23 cm deep, the depth Wizz allows on the trolley, is the 110 to 140 EUR band.

The same gate charge applies to bags you never added to the booking. An extra piece at boarding is checked at that rate. Bags already on the ticket can't be changed or cancelled.

You have to put the overhead bag in the locker yourself. If you can't, Vueling checks it.

Shoes, bicycle helmets, and motorcycle helmets go inside the bag. They can't hang off the side or stick out, on the under-seat bag or in the locker.

To add a bag after you have booked, Vueling sends you to check-in on a computer, customer services, or the airport if space is left. Doing it at the aircraft door is the published gate fee, not the web add-on.

Vueling against Ryanair, Wizz, and easyJet

Four European low-cost boxes. Vueling and Ryanair share the centimeters. The fares that unlock the locker bag don't. The 68-row carry-on checker stays on the luggage size chart.

Airline Free under-seat (cm) Overhead bag (cm) Overhead weight How you get the overhead bag
Vueling (VY) 40 x 30 x 20 55 x 40 x 20 10 kg / 22 lb Fly Grande, Fly Pro, Premium, infants; Fly if you pick it; paid add-on on Fly Light
Ryanair (FR) 40 x 30 x 20 55 x 40 x 20 10 kg / 22 lb Priority & 2 Cabin Bags, also inside Regular, Flexi Plus, and Time Saver fares
Wizz Air (W6) 40 x 30 x 20 55 x 40 x 23 10 kg / 22 lb WIZZ Priority
easyJet (U2) 45 x 36 x 20 56 x 45 x 25 15 kg / 33 lb each bag Paid add-on, unless easyJet Plus or Inclusive Plus

Ryanair sells the locker bag as Priority & 2 Cabin Bags, and our Ryanair cabin bag size guide covers its 42 cm sizer and gate fees. Vueling ties the same centimeters to the fare, to a Space seat, or to the Fly Light add-on.

Wizz prints 55 x 40 x 23 cm for the trolley, 3 cm more depth than Vueling, and writes that handles and wheels sit outside the published box, with wheels adding no more than 5 cm. Vueling's cabin article has no such line. Treat the Vueling sizer as the outside of the packed bag.

easyJet's under-seat limit is 45 x 36 x 20 cm, 5 cm taller and 6 cm wider than Vueling's. easyJet measures that box with handles and wheels included and lets it weigh up to 15 kg. That bag won't drop into a Vueling 40 x 30 x 20 cm gauge.

Iberia, Vueling's sister airline inside IAG, includes a 10 kg cabin bag at 56 x 40 x 25 cm on every fare, 1 cm longer and 5 cm deeper than Vueling's locker box. A case packed for an Iberia flight can fail the Vueling sizer on depth alone.

The 20 cm that US cabin bags miss

A US 22 x 14 x 9 in spinner is 55.9 x 35.6 x 22.9 cm. Vueling's locker box is 55 x 40 x 20 cm. Height is already 0.9 cm over. Depth is 2.9 cm over. That spinner is the 110 to 140 EUR band.

Listings sold as "cabin size" often quote the shell. Wheels, a front pocket, and an expanded zipper are what the gauge sees. Vueling never writes "including wheels and handles" on the cabin page, and never writes that they are excluded. The helmet rule is the tell: if it sits on the outside, it is in the measurement.

Pack the bag, then take height, width, and depth the way a gate box sees them. Our how to measure luggage notes cover that sequence, wheels down, handle in.

What fits under a Vueling seat

The free bag is a backpack, a laptop sleeve, a tote, or a small duffel that still reads 40 x 30 x 20 cm when packed. A wheeled under-seat case can pass if the wheels stay inside 20 cm. Many don't, because the wheel housing is the extra centimeter.

Soft sides give you a little compression in the sizer. A hard 20 cm shell has none. An empty backpack cut to 40 x 30 x 20 cm that bulges to 22 cm once it holds a laptop and a pair of shoes is a 60 to 75 EUR check-in at Barcelona, Madrid, or Malaga.

For under-seat packs already filtered toward this kind of box, use the personal item backpacks list and read the overall centimeters on each card, not the liter number on the hangtag.

Hold bags on Vueling, 158 cm

Checked bags are a separate allowance. Vueling's checked-luggage article caps each hold bag at 158 cm on length plus height plus width, in 15 kg, 20 kg, 25 kg, and 30 kg weights. Excess past 25 kg is 12 EUR per extra kilo, up to 32 kg. Fly can include the 25 kg bag if you pick it at purchase. Fly Grande includes it.

158 cm is the usual European 62-inch checked box. The calculator and the 68-row checked chart live on 62 linear inches.

Where the Vueling numbers were read

Cabin sizes, fare split, helmet rule, independent-lift rule, and both gate bands come from Hand Luggage Allowance (Cabin bags allowance), in English. The Spanish twin, Equipaje de mano, prints the same 60 to 75 EUR and 110 to 140 EUR. We reread both before this guide went live.

Fly's luggage choice and the Fly Pro contents are on Bundle Comparison. Hold 158 cm and 12 EUR per kilo sit on the checked-luggage article linked above. Ryanair's 40 x 30 x 20 cm and 55 x 40 x 20 cm boxes are on the Ryanair bag policy. Wizz 40 x 30 x 20 cm, 55 x 40 x 23 cm, and the wheels line are on Wizz cabin baggage. easyJet's 45 x 36 x 20 cm and 15 kg are on easyJet cabin bags, and Iberia's 56 x 40 x 25 cm is on Iberia hand luggage. The method for the 68-row table is how we measure.

FAQ

What is the Vueling cabin bag size?

Every fare includes one under-seat bag, 40 x 30 x 20 cm (15.7 x 11.8 x 7.9 in). Fly Grande, Fly Pro, Premium, and passengers with infants also get a 10 kg overhead bag at 55 x 40 x 20 cm (21.7 x 15.7 x 7.9 in). Fly includes that overhead bag only if you select it instead of the 25 kg hold bag.

Does Fly Light include an overhead bag on Vueling?

No. Fly Light is the 40 x 30 x 20 cm under-seat bag. The 10 kg 55 x 40 x 20 cm locker bag is added as "2 pieces on board", or it comes with a Space One, Space Plus, or Space seat. Vueling doesn't publish one add-on price. It says prices vary by booking.

How much does Vueling charge at the gate for an oversized bag?

60 to 75 EUR per item and flight if the under-seat bag exceeds 40 x 30 x 20 cm. 110 to 140 EUR per item and flight if any piece exceeds 55 x 40 x 20 cm. Unbooked bags at the gate pay the check-in fee too. Those bands are on Vueling's cabin article.

Does Vueling include wheels in the cabin size?

The cabin article doesn't say wheels are included, and it doesn't say they are excluded. Measure the packed bag, wheels and handles and pockets included. Helmets and shoes have to sit inside. Anything on the outside is in the box.

Will a 22 x 14 x 9 inch American carry-on fit Vueling?

No. 22 x 14 x 9 in is 55.9 x 35.6 x 22.9 cm. Vueling's overhead box is 55 x 40 x 20 cm. The depth alone is 2.9 cm over, which is the 110 to 140 EUR gate band.

Does Vueling use the same cabin size as Ryanair?

Yes on the centimeter boxes: 40 x 30 x 20 cm under the seat, 55 x 40 x 20 cm in the locker at 10 kg. The product that unlocks the locker bag is different. Ryanair sells Priority & 2 Cabin Bags. Vueling ties it to the fare, to a Space seat, or to the Fly Light add-on.

Does the Vueling under-seat bag have a weight limit?

The cabin article doesn't print a kilogram cap for the under-seat bag. The 10 kg figure is written on the overhead piece. Wizz, by contrast, publishes 10 kg on the small bag as well. Don't import that cap onto a Vueling ticket.

Can I add a Vueling overhead bag after I book Fly Light?

Yes. Vueling says you can add luggage during check-in from a computer, by calling customer services, or at the airport if it is available. Prices vary by booking. At the gate, an unbooked extra piece is checked at the published gate fee.
